Siemens Energy Limited has awarded nmcn Power & Industrial the enabling works for National Grid’s Viking Link Interconnector project.
The project, which started on site in July 2020, will provide the enabling works at the Bicker Fen site in Lincolnshire. The work involves the construction of a bellmouth junction and a 2.4km access road from the A52 outside of Donnington. The permanent access road includes a road bridge across Hammond Beck which will provide access to the converter substation compound. Also included within the scope is a temporary access road for the 400kV AC cable haul route.
The award of this project further elevates nmcn’s Power & Industrial team’s expertise of operating within the electrical transmission sector having completed Eaton Socon, Dudgeon and Galloper Wind Farm substations in recent years.
Gareth Trafford, Head of Civil Engineering at Siemens Energy commented: “The Viking Link Interconnector is a key project for Siemens Energy and we look forward to working with the nmcn team on the successful delivery of the scheme.”
Rich Smith, Business Development Director – Power & Industrial added: “We are delighted to be awarded work on such a prestigious project. Our team worked hard on the tender through challenging circumstances and our operations team are looking forward to delivering a quality project on site.”
The 1.4 GW HVDC grid connection between the UK and Denmark, is a joint venture between National Grid Ventures, part of National Grid, and the Danish electricity system owner and operator, Energinet. The project will began construction in July 2020 and works will be ongoing until February 2021.
