National construction firm nmcn plc has been appointed by CityFibre, the UK’s third national digital infrastructure platform, to deliver full fibre rollouts across Barnsley and Halifax.
This forms part of a £1.5 billion investment, awarding construction contracts for full fibre rollouts across 27 towns and cities, addressing approximately up to 3 million premises.
nmcn will be delivering these FTTP programmes via a hybrid build technique encompassing PIA and traditional deployment methods.
The combined work of both contracts is £39.6m. Works will start in early 2021, with completion forecasted for 2023.
The new construction contracts form part of CityFibre’s up to £4bn Gigabit City Investment Programme, which aims to reach up to 8 million premises to upgrade to full fibre, supporting the Government’s own full fibre ambitions of delivering full fibre connectivity across the country by 2025.
John Maloney, Managing Director of Telecoms at nmcn, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed by CityFibre to deliver ultrafast and reliable Full Fibre broadband rollouts across Barnsley and Halifax. This is a fantastic achievement for nmcn and supports CityFibre’s £4bn Gigabit City Investment Programme, helping to level-up the UK and support the Government’s plan for nationwide coverage by 2025.
“We look forward to further developing our working relationship with CityFibre to deliver this vital digital infrastructure. And with further opportunities on the horizon, there is strong potential to grow our partnership.”
