Quality Co-ordinator

"I’m now on my third level of apprenticeship, in which nmcn have fully supported and allowed me the time to complete and thrive in."

What do you do on a day to day basis?

I work in a support role for the business, so day to day I help everyone from operational/technical staff to office staff with queries or issues around either Quality, Environmental, Health, Safety or Information Security.

With a daily aim to better advance our policies, procedures and other processes to continually improve nmcn’s integrated management system. Performing internal audits on our systems and assisting with external audits from accreditation bodies.

Running the ‘support’ side of the QESH team with now my own apprentice, to provide guidance and support to both the QESH team and the wider business. This includes producing data pack which highlight and guide the business units on their QESH performance.

What are the advantages of doing an apprenticeship?

There are so many advantages to doing an apprenticeship, these can range from:

  • Learning hands on, rather than theoretical learning
  • Progression within a career and/or continued study
  • Becoming a valuable asset to a team or department
  • Continual guidance and support
  • No student loans or debt. Usually government funded
  • Earning key ‘working’ skills such as;
    • Communication & Interpersonal skills
    • Teamwork & collaborative working
    • Time management
    • Practical and/or technical skills

What are your ambitions for the future?

I’m currently working towards gaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management and Leadership, in which I have nearly completed the first year of three. I’ve recently started looking into how I could then go on to complete a Masters level in business studies, as I want to continue to learn and progress academically.

In the next 3 years I aim to gain a manager status within nmcn and  hope to continue to be a key asset to my team. I hope to be key in installing the next line of ISO standards at the company, as it continues to grow in size and ability.

How would you describe the culture and working environment at nmcn

The culture is people driven, I myself have had some tough times while working at nmcn and I felt completely supported by the people who work here and the high level management that run the business.

It’s refreshing to find a company in which the Chief Executive will stand in a kitchen and talk to you not just about your progression within their company but about your life outside of work too.

How does nmcn support you in achieving your career ambitions/aspirations?

Choosing a mentor within nmcn has given me the support and guidance I needed as a young adult to steer me towards my career ambitions. I’m very thankful towards my line manager and director of my department, who have allowed me the room to mature and grow as person, whilst also keeping me on a straight path to ensure I completed and achieved my aspirations.

How have you progressed since joining nmcn?

Since joining nmcn in 2014 as a business admin apprentice, I have achieved 3 career promotions, almost 3 levels of academic studies, a trained auditor status and now am training and managing my own apprentice. I have also grown professionally and personally, which has benefited me in many ways.
