"If you are active in wanting to improve and build you career, nmcn is more than willing to support those who want to support themselves."

What attracted you to nmcn?
I heard about nmcn from a friend who was already working here. As my time at university was coming to an end I was looking to start my career, after catching up in the final few months we learnt that there are plenty of transferable skills from my design background that could be used by nmcn. He suggested putting my name forward and seeing what happens from there.

What attracted me to nmcn from there was the opportunity to be involved in design engineering, especially in a well-established company like nmcn, the possibility of working as part of a multidisciplinary team so early in my career also gives me the unique view on the different roles in the engineering industry.

How would you describe the culture and working environment at nmcn?
From the start I found my collogues to be welcoming and patient, which I was very thankful for as I found the thought of joining an industry I previously had little experience with very daunting.

From there as my confidence grew and I became more involved with projects and design discussions I have always felt listened to. Questions are always encouraged and all professional knowledge is openly shared.

What development opportunities are there at nmcn?
After expressing interest in furthering my knowledge in engineering, several of my colleagues encouraged me to find what interested me the most and then to bring that to my line managers, from there it was further encouraged by management for me to take an active role in arranging what was needed in order for me to find the right part time course and campus for me to reenter higher education.

What attracted you to a career in Design Engineering?
When I first joined nmcn as a graduate graphic designer I was interested in what different challenges that working in the engineering industry would provide. Over time as my role evolved into a more CAD design focus I have become more attracted to the day to day challenges that working with the different aspects of engineering provide

What do you find most interesting about your job?
What I find most interesting is the opportunities I get to design something unique that then goes onto be fabricated and used, even if it is a small part of a larger project, getting to have something of my own within the project give me the sense of ownership.

How does nmcn support you in achieving your career ambitions/aspirations?
If you are active in wanting to improve and build you career, nmcn is more than willing to support those who want to support themselves.

How has nmcn played a role in your long-term career development?
As an introduction to engineering and construction nmcn has played a huge role in finding a start in a career that I previously hadn’t thought about, as well as making it possible for further education and development.
