Apprentice Estimator

"My confidence has increased due to talking to more people and being taken out of my comfort zone, not too much, but constantly being challenged to try something different, my skills as an assistant estimator have improved."

What attracted you to nmcn?
I attended a senior engagement day (Career fair) with the Army Cadet Force and the Executive Chairman Robert Moyle was in attendance, Robert is very passionate about Engineering and spoke to me about the company and all the opportunities nmcn can provide for you.

How would you describe the culture and working environment at nmcn?
A family feel to the company, you are a name and not a number. Everyone is your friend and will happily help you if you have any problems.

What do you do on a day to day basis?
I am training to become an Assistant Estimator so sending out enquiries, chasing up quotes via phone, take-offs, organising folders, assisting the estimators on projects.

What are the advantages of doing an apprenticeship?

  •         You are introduced into the working world gradually
  •         Get paid to learn
  •         Have courses funded for you like college, uni, training days, etc

What are your ambitions for the future?
My ambitions are to work my way up to become an estimator and maybe progress up to senior estimator.

How does nmcn support you in achieving your career ambitions/aspirations?
As I am profoundly deaf, I am a cochlear implant wearer so I struggled to talk on the phone confidently as I can’t hear very well, nmcn supports my ambition by funding for specialist equipment to help enhance the sound on the phone.

What piece of advice would you give someone looking to apply for an apprenticeship with nmcn?
Do it!

How have you progressed since joining nmcn?
My confidence has increased due to talking to more people and being taken out of my comfort zone but not too much, constantly being challenged to try something different, my skills as an assistant estimator have improved.
